Merry and Bright, Christmas on Pearl Street

It is December already (does anyone else feel like this year went screaming by?!) and we are busy here on Pearl Street getting ready for Christmas.

I would have loved to go out and buy all brand new decorations because I have dreams of a farmhouse Christmas theme, but we have three grown children and their spouses to buy for, along with our six grandlittles so my decorating budget has gone way down and I have had to make do with what we already have.  My hubby and I both did a Christmas DIY project from items we had laying around, you can check out my ladder makeover HERE, and you will see his project later on in this post and I will give the link in case you want to make one yourself!

Sit back, relax with your favorite beverage and enjoy your tour of our home all made up for Christmas!!

Merry and Bright, Christmas on Pearl Street

You may have seen my mantle during the Festive Fall Home Tour, it is the main focal point in our dining room and I love to go all out decorating it for Christmas!!  I have no idea where I picked up this little Merry Christmas ornament, but it goes front and center every year.Merry and Bright, Christmas on Pearl Street  I love, love, love garland!  It really looks festive wrapped in burlap and lighted up!!  I have added in extra Christmas balls that bring in color and texture to add a little pizazz.

I bought this skinny Alpine Christmas tree about 6 years ago.  I dolled it all up and when my son saw it he asked “What is wrong with you?” and said “That’s not a Christmas tree!”  Needless to say, that was the only year this little darling was our main Christmas tree.  Now each year I leave it bare with only it’s lights to adorn it.  This year I decided to put it in a basket and I love how it looks.

I did buy one new thing this year (but I got him 1/2 off, so that’s okay, right?) and I have to say that I love this gold ceramic nutcracker up here on the mantle!!  He actually has a candle that comes out of the top of his head, but I doubt that I will be lighting it.

Next to the fireplace in the dining room is our rocker  we bought at an auction the first year we were together, it really cozies up the space.  The old crock was another auction piece and the table legs I picked up on the cheap at a garage sale last summer (I knew I would use them for something) and the flowers were bunches that I cut apart.  On my FAB new dinning table sits a great old ammo crate full of extra Christmas balls.  I didn’t over crowd it because let’s face it….people still have to be able to eat at the table.

Come on in to the family room!

After eating our french toast brunch (things are so different now that our children have children of their own, I miss having little ones waiting for us to get up to open presents) we all gather in the family room to unwrap presents.  This year I had two little helpers decorate the tree they put all the decorations on it and I added the ribbon and burlap later.  They did a great job!!

I added a few touches of Christmas to our built-ins and filled my favorite piece in the house full of greenery and Christmas balls for the coffee table.  That carpenter’s box was a steal at a garage sale this spring and I change it out with the seasons.

See that little pug guy?  He was so tired of me rearranging the decorations, lol!

The last little piece of decorating is this shelf we put up in the family room after we had it built (the room that is), it was an old board that had been under the deck for years.  Now see that cute white wooden Christmas tree up there?  That was the surprise my hubby made for me when he came home from work.  It only took him a half an hour and I painted it, it is made from scrap trim.  Didn’t he do an amazing job?  I got the idea from my friend Toni over at Small Home Soul, check out her post to make one of your own!!

Sometime in the next couple of weeks I will get all the presents wrapped, I am such a procrastinator.  I can’t wait for Christmas morning to see everyone’s faces as they open their gifts…it truly is the best part of the day.

I hope you enjoyed my leg of the home tour!  Don’t forget to visit the rest of the homes of my blogging buddies from over here at the Christmas Sparkle Home Tour

  13. Susanne – your mantle and fireplace look so festive and bright! I especially like how you draped the garland and wrapped it in burlap. The Alpine Tree story is cute – and it looks great sitting in the basket with just the lights. That ammo box is so unique, and I really enjoyed seeing your carpenter’s box both in your Fall Tour and this one too ! The little ones did a beautiful job on the tree! Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas to you and your family!

  14. I can’t wait until I have grandlittles to help decorate trees. What fun for you and for them! I will have to get my decor stuff purchased now- didn’t think about the budget diminishing when the grandlittles come along. 🙂 I LOVE all your garlands and mantle. The Alpine tree is sweet and perfect in the basket. Thanks for the tutorial for putting “snow” on the tree. Your tree looks great with the “snow”. I will have to try it next year. I really love the gold nutcracker and I need to find one for my collection. The wood tree your hubby made = AMAZING for so many reasons! It looks perfect on the shelf. Thank you for inviting me over! Love to you and your family. Merry Christmas!!

    1. Thank you so much Melissa!!! Grandlittles are great 🙂 I didn’t even change the decorations that much. When my kids were growing up they always ended up hating to help me decorate the tree, because I always wanted to make sure they didn’t bunch up the balls…lol!! Looking back now, I wish I hadn’t worried about it so much. Thank you for stopping by Merry Christmas to you and your family!!!
