Simple Fall Mantle…Less Is More

How to Style a Simple Fall Mantle

Summer is winding down once again and fall is creeping in. Crisp mornings, windows open, and all things pumpkin spice (if you like that stuff) are starting to fill my Pinterest feed.  It’s hard to get into the mood to decorate for fall when you still have 80 degree days and the leaves aren’t even turning yet, but I decided today I needed to get started.

Especially since everyone in the blogosphere

is already

weeks ahead of me!

What can I say…I try to hold onto summer as long as I can.

Where do I start when I start changing out my seasonal decor? I start with my mantle. It is the first space to draw your eye when you come into our home.

Today I am sharing my simple fall mantle. This year I am simplifying my decor, less can be more.

Less to dust…Less to store away.

Sometimes less is more in home decor, a simple fall mantel with loads of style.

I always start with a clean slate.  Everything comes off and I dust the mantle.  My son recently made a new mantle for his fireplace and I am hoping mom might.. maybe… get one for her fireplace for her birthday…hint, hint 😉

I love all of the neutral fall decor out there.  It is everywhere, year after year, so I don’t think it will go out of style anytime soon.  But, I am a traditionalist when it comes to fall decor.  I have to have the vibrant oranges and reds and yellows…with a few white pumpkins thrown in.

I start by adding pieces that will provide different heights to the decor on my mantle.  The cool old scale that I bought my hubby and a stack of old books are the perfect pedestals for my vintage white pitchers that hold those great faux leaves.  These elements provide symmetry to my mantle.

Our vintage glass candle holder returns to it’s coveted spot in the middle after being absent all summer and a few mini orange and white pumpkins are sprinkled strategically across the whole space.  I picked those up at the Amish grocery store in the next little town over…I could spend hours in that place, but that is a story for another time.
